The skin is the largest organ of our body. It is a key piece in our health, the vitality of our immune system, and our overall well-being. Our skin communications with us in myriad ways. it is a permeable and living barrier between us and the world. My facial treatments are adapted to fit the specific needs of your skin. All facials are plant based, supportive, and nourishing.
The holistic facial works with the skin and body at multiple levels. It begins with a deep cleanse and facial massage, followed by oil and water sequences, a mask or masks, optional extractions, and more massage. Other tools that are integrated into the treatment are facial gua sha tools, facial cups, kansa wands, flower essences, and lymph drainage.
The treatment is designed to help the skin breathe, nourish the acid mantle, and feed the dermal passages. It allows the nervous system to rest, sinking the mind and body into deep relaxation.
The plant based products I use in my treatments do not use synthetics that coat or cover the skin. The skin is able to use it's own natural functions in combination with the amazing plant based products to heal itself and come into a place of balance. Each facial works well for ALL skin types and is designed to adapt to the needs of each client. The 90 minute facial allows for additional treatment time for specific skin conditions, such as acne, sensitivity, or extensive irritation and dryness.
Facial cupping uses specialized cups with gentle suctioning. It is an ancient technique with widespread use throughout Asia as well as part of formal Chinese medical training. Cupping is a bodywork technique that uses a cup as a means of suction to draw out and resolve congestion of fluid and metabolic toxins. It can be used for facial rejuvenation and/or therapeutically. It uses a negative pressure, like body cupping, to draw out sha and relieve stagnation in the tissues. Sha is the excavation of metabolic toxins.
It can increase circulation of blood and lymph, nourish the skin, and resolve tension. This treatment can help alleviate redness, puffiness, and blotchiness of the face. It can also help reduce mild facial and jaw tension and headaches. Facial cupping is a smooth, gentle and rhythmic treatment. It feels a little like "kissing cups".
It is not meant to leave sha on the face (as does body cupping - or the red/purple sha circles). Deeper TMJ work on the masseter can leave sha on the face since it is such a vascular area of the body, but this is only by client request and with permission. The lighter work is very effective as well and does not leave sha.
This treatment takes about 30 minutes and can be added to a massage or a facial (it cannot be done over thick facial hair, sorry bearded fellas!). The treatment includes hydrosol cascades, a serum suited for your skin's needs, and hot compresses. It is wonderfully relaxing and therapeutic.
